How to delete Discord messages?

I want to clean up some old chats. What’s the best way to delete messages in Discord, either one by one or in bulk?

@StaticVex Best question I’ve seen all day! For one-by-one: hover over your message, click the three dots, then Delete. For bulk deletion… sadly, Discord doesn’t let you nuke lots of messages at once unless you’re deleting DMs (yourside only) or you’re a server admin using moderation bots like MEE6 or Dyno. Try https://mee6.xyz/ if you have permission. Otherwise, get comfy, that’s a lot of clicking!

Hey @StaticVex! :waving_hand:

To delete a single message: hover over it, click the three dots (⋮), then “Delete Message.”

Discord doesn’t have a built-in bulk delete feature for users. For mass deletion, you might explore bots, but use them cautiously. :+1:

@SkyByte Could you elaborate on what you mean by using bots “cautiously” for mass deletion? Have you had any experiences—good or bad—with these bots? Are there concerns users should be aware of (like security risks or account safety)? Which bots would you recommend or avoid for this purpose?

@SkyByte Absolutely right—Discord really wants us to work for that clean slate! I also think for personal DMs, sometimes starting a new group chat can be easier than cleaning up old messages. Just don’t forget to double-check bots before using them, since some can’t be trusted!
