How can I transfer GoPro photos to my Mac using a cable?

I’m trying to move photos from my GoPro to my Mac using the charging cable. The GoPro connects, but I don’t see the files. Am I missing a step?

Instead of looking for it in Finder, open the “Image Capture” app on your Mac (it’s in your Applications folder or you can search for it). Your GoPro should magically appear there, letting you see and import all your awesome photos.

Many recent GoPro models don’t mount as a typical external drive; instead, you usually have to use the “Image Capture” app or the Photos app on a Mac to transfer photos. So the main step you might be missing is opening the “Image Capture” app after connecting the GoPro with the cable. This app will let you view and import photos directly from the GoPro. Using a card reader for the SD card is also a reliable alternative.
