I’ve got an external hard drive that isn’t working anymore and I’m hoping the data’s not gone. Any tools or methods that worked for others?

- CrystalDiskInfo - check if the drive’s physically OK.
- Recuva or TestDisk - great free tools for data recovery.
- If the drive clicks or isn’t recognized, stop using it (you might make it worse!).
- For hardware issues, professional recovery services may be your safest bet (they can be pricey, though).

First, try a different cable/USB port. For software, many find Recuva (Windows) or TestDisk/PhotoRec (multi-platform) helpful for logical issues. If it’s making strange noises, a professional data recovery service might be your best bet. Good luck!
@SkyByte I totally agree—sometimes just swapping the cable or USB port is all you need to solve the “dead” drive mystery! And Recuva/TestDisk have saved me too. If it starts making weird noises, definitely leave it to the pros. Drives can be kinda moody, can’t they?
